Annie Vallotton Exhibition Launch 17.07.2014

Last Thursday saw the official launch of the Annie Vallotton exhibition, held at the astounding St Martin in-the-fields in Trafalgar Square. The walls of the grand hall were adorned with Annie’s famous line drawings that are so instantly recognisable, steeped in nostalgia and embedded in our memories.

Attendees of the event ranged from diocesan education representatives, school teachers and clergy, as well as retailers and distributors from the Christian book trade. James Catford, Group Chief Executive of the Bible Society and the inspirational Canon Dr Ann Holt OBE, Director of External Relations for the Bible Society and newly appointed Director of Education gave speeches at the event, as well as Paula Taquet-Woolfolk.

During her speech and prayer, Ann Holt, on the use of the Good News Bible and Annie’s work in schools, said ‘This autumn, the Church of England is launching a brand new programme for schools. There can be no better bible to pass onto children than the Good News Bible’.

The exhibition is still open to the public so be sure to go along and see the fantastic display of Annie’s wonderful work. Click here for St Martins opening times.

“The Bible in Pictures” – The work of Annie Vallotton – A Lasting Legacy

Following weeks, nay, months of planning, hard work, and a trip to the United States, we’re pleased to open the Annie Vallotton exhibition tonight at the beautiful St Martin-in-the Fields in Trafalgar Square.

Vallotton’s simple line-drawing illustrations illuminated the Bible’s stories for readers. The success of Good News for Modern Man was followed by the complete Bible translation, the Good News Bible, which included pen-and-ink illustrations by Vallotton. To date, the Good News Bible has sold more than 225 million copies – each with Vallotton’s illustrations.

Annie was delighted at the privilege of contributing her amazing artwork to the Bible. In her own words: “I was very excited.  I used a pencil for the rough drafts and a pen to ink them. I never added colour.  I had no need to research clothing or buildings – you see I wanted drawings that were ‘out of time’.”

The exhibition runs from 26 June  26 October
